Here are some highlights and reflections from my five day trip to San Pedro, Belize (2025).
Overview
Belize is a small island in central America best known for snorkelling and diving. As a former British colony, English is the main language spoken by the natives. The Belizean Dollar is the main currency although US Dollars are widely accepted.
Transportation
You’ll need to rent a golf cart whilst staying in San Pedro. But when you arrive, you can find taxis located on some side streets. I used a taxi to get to and from my hotel with my luggage. If you want to get to Secret Beach, hire a golf cart.

I also recommend flying into San Pedro island for at least one leg of your trip. You get beautiful views and it’s only a 15 minute flight.
Location
I stayed at the Voyager Sun and Reef Hotel. It’s cheap, centrally located (near the San Pedro sign) and clean.
On my way home, I spent the night at Golden Bay Belize Hotel. The food at the on-site restaurant was delicious!
Things to do
There isn’t much to do or see in San Pedro in comparison to other destinations. It’s very much a slow-paced, small island with friendly locals. If you can stay longer in Belize, definitely visit San Ignacio for lots of adventure and cultural tours. For five days in San Pedro, I’d recommended doing any of the following activities:
Book a snorkelling day tour
Relax at Ramon's Village Resort beach front resort
Go diving at the Great Blue Hole
Visit Caye Caulker
Go to Secret Beach
Get a massage
Visit Victoria House Resort & Spa
Places to eat in San Pedro, Belize
Frenchy’s wine and dine
Maxie’s restaurant and lounge
Elvi’s Kitchen
Palapa Bar & Grill
Estels
The Truck Stop

Overall reflections
Snorkeling in Belize is fantastic and a must-do. I can only imagine what diving is like - probably epic!
The food is delicious, although Fly Jacks are pretty bland to me. Many blogs raved about it, but it’s just fried bread dough.
If you’re going to visit Belize from across the pond, visit the country as part of a wider Central American trip that includes Mexico and Guatemala. It’s all located in the same region.
Contrary to popular opinion, Secret Beach isn’t anything special, so don’t worry if you can’t make it, you're not missing anything.
Caye Caulker is cute! But unfortunately, there is no beach front. In fact, that’s been my observation the entire trip. Not many people were getting into the water, unlike Mexico for example. Ramon's is a good place to go swimming if you’d like to.

Happy travels!
