Things that amazed me about Japan (2023)

My first trip to Japan has just concluded and what a pleasant trip it was. There are so many amazing things about the country, but below are a few things that stood out to me.

The cleanliness

Japan is a spotless clean country, which comes from the Shinto religion that believes cleanliness provides spiritual purity. Let's not forget to mention their highly impressive toilets and their high-tech cleaning functions.

The timeliness

Everything in Japan runs on time. They have a very orderly and well organised society which is admirable.

The fashion

I felt a great sense of belonging when it came to the feminine fashion over there. Seeing the women stylishly toting their Longchamp and Coach bags while draped in beautiful furs, elegant skirts and dresses. I felt right at home, inspired even.

Osaka vs Tokyo

The vibe in Osaka was surprising in comparison to Tokyo. Osaka is hip, full of soul and people generally tend to be more relaxed and informal there.

Uber in Japan / Taxi's

Despite what you might have heard, Uber works just fine in japan and split between two people in Japan is cheap. For journey's I took alone, I also never paid more than £9. The customer service is exceptional and if you are using a taxi, you can also pay by card. Their taxi's look so elegant and I love that the doors are automated. Very snazzy!

The language barrier

Despite not being able to speak or read any Japanese (and many Japanese people don't speak English), you can still get by as a tourist just fine.

Just to mention...

More card payments are accepted

Since the pandemic, card payments in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka are more widely accepted, so don't worry about withdrawing too much cash. It's always good to have on hand for street food and topping up your Suica card though.

There are so many more interesting things to add, but here are just some that stood out. Did any of these amaze you too?
